MINISTER of Sport Dr Frank Anthony will today meet officials of the contracting firm, Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited (CBCSL), with regard to the progress of work being done at the Leonora, West Coast Demerara-based synthetic athletic track. When Chronicle Sport visited the scene earlier this week workers from the contracting firm were busily engaged in work on one of the culverts.
In an invited comment, site foreman Gordon Barker said the recent inclement weather has been a humbug to the progress of the work, pushing the project, which was signed by both Dr Anthony and Chairman of CBCSL Courtney Benn late last year, behind by two weeks.
“Certainly, the recent weather has been a humbug to us, placing us behind our schedule and as you can see we are in the catch-up mode at the moment, having 24 workers on the site, as we have culverts, the foundation for the track, main access roads and drains to construct,” said Barker.
He added that despite the weather, he has been pleased with the work that has been achieved to date and looks forward to the improvement of the weather, so that they can get their assigned task completed.
