THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) last Sunday successfully launched its 2011 Junior Elite Training Programme with 35 Under-15 cricketers drawn from across the ancient county at the Albion Community Centre ground. The aim of the Elite programme is to make sure that the county’s best Under-15 players are kept in the best of shape, both physically and mentally, as the county prepares for a successful defence of its Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Under-15 Inter-county title.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Chairman of the BCB’s Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, at the official launching of the programme challenged the young cricketers to be disciplined at all times, to show commitment and most importantly to be prepared to work hard as it is the only way to success for Berbicians.
Foster noted that the BCB has been pro-active as the rainy season is affecting cricket on the field and as such the Board was using the opportunity to get them prepared for the upcoming tournament and warned them that no form of indiscipline would be tolerated, while urging the players to work hard to impress the coaches and selectors who would be present at the programme.
President of the BCB, Keith Foster, reminded the young cricketers of the huge investment the Board was making into their future and urged them to dedicate themselves to the task at hand.
He challenged the cricketers to practise what they have learnt from the coaches at home to make sure that they develop at a faster rate.
Chairman of the BCB’s Selection Committee, Leslie Solomon, informed the players that final selection to the Cellink Berbice Under-15 Team would be based on performances at the upcoming trial matches, past performances at the BCB Under-15 Inter-club level, discipline, attitude and potential for the future.
The players after the official launching were involved in an intense four-hour physical session with the coaches.
The programme is set to continue this weekend at the same venue from 13:00 h under the supervision of coaches Julian Moore and Winston Smith.
BCB launches another successful Junior Elite Training Programme.
