-situation under control, no new outbreaks
MINISTER within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran has indicated that more medical teams are being deployed to communities affected by the existing La Nina weather phenomenon. Medical teams have been working in the Mahaica and Mahaicony areas assessing and administering medical services to hundreds of residents.
The teams comprise personnel from the regions within which they are deployed, and Georgetown.
“We have recorded no spike in flood related diseases, except for a few cases of common diarrhoea,” Ramsaran told the Government Information Agency in an interview.
Following the 2005 flood, Minister Ramsaran said a strong response mechanism was put in place by the administration to ensure that health situations are dealt with.
This measure, he said, is in addition to the daily operations of health centres and other medical huts in affected areas.
Health teams were also dispatched to Regions Two, Three, and Six.
