Chronicle editorial on Matthew’s Ridge road welcomed

I welcome a Chronicle editorial on the Mathew Ridge road.  I previously called for greater accountability by officials in the government. At that time I suggested that Chronicle should ask the Commissioner and Minister to disclose when and what they did from the time they received prior reports on security problems at the Stabroek Market and when they eventually took the steps taken after the explosion incident. I had hoped that the Chronicle would start questioning officials on their actions or lack thereof after such incidents or reports. I also wrote about the tendency of having to wait on the President to fix problems that should have been fixed earlier by ministers and others at a lower level.
Interestingly, Chronicle reported that the President pointed out in Mathew Ridge that he was blamed for others’ mistakes. Now the Chronicle is saying “This is a serious issue and the President should delve deeply into this bungling and take appropriate disciplinary action”.  Well the Editor is right, but he could help the President and country, why raising more questions about issues, conditions or actions that cannot be known or approved by the President or as the stated policy of the government.
