I agree with the letter from T.KING, regarding plea deals. There should be no plea deals for serious crimes of violence. Law makers should make strong laws to punish law breakers that terrorise law-abiding citizens. Manslaughter should never be applied if death occurs during a commission of a violent crime. Such cases should be murder in the first degree and should carry the death penalty. The death penalty should not be only for the murder of uniformed officers, but for any person.
Cases based on accidents or caused by altercations or self defence absent of deliberate intent are better considered as second or third degree murder or manslaughter. Those sentences would be determined by the individual circumstances.
