Mayor’s Cup double-header action set for GFC this evening

…weather permitting
AFTER heavy showers on Saturday last caused another postponement to this year’s Mayor’s Cup, organisers and fans are hopeful like the players for a much brighter day today and onwards as the battle for the million dollars first prize continues at the GFC ground this evening with a double-header.

Today’s opener which will feature Santos FC and Victoria Kings will be a big test for recently appointed Coach of the East Coast-based side Nantambu Bilaal.
His opposite Denzil Thompson is also eager to advance the City unit and this sets the stage for an exciting affair as both sides are known for their attacking prowess.

The Santos’ challenge will be spearheaded by Shemroy Arthur who will be supported in the midfield by William Europe along with the talented Trevor Lewis and Michael Pedro Jr. Lennox Charles will direct the defense against the likes of veteran former national goal-getter Winston Pompey.
Kings will also include in their line-up former national midfielder Pierre Joseph and national U-20 midfielder Calvin DeSouza as well as defender Sherlock Dowden.
The second game could prove to be more exciting as several past players of BK International Western Tigers will come face to face with their former club in what is highly anticipated to be intense action.
Leading the Beacons FC will be national forward Devon Millington who is among the players who have severed ties with the Tigers. The others are defender Delon Fraser and forward Phillip Rowley. Also expected to appear for the new-look Beacons outfit are seasoned past national Jerome Richardson and former national youth player Daniel Favorite. The experience and expertise of Mervyn ‘Pug’ Wilson and Cornel Millington as Coaches could also be pivotal in a Beacons win.
Tigers coached by Kavin Pearce will hope to put behind them recent in-house misfortunes and restore confidence in their fans. National custodian Derek Carter will have the solidity of Captain Shermon David and Vashil Cantlaar in the middle defense and the roaming Nedd Fraser in midfield. In attack  will be Wendell St Hill and Reynold Fraser.
Kick-off time for the opening encounter is 18:00hrs. Meanwhile fans will be served up more Mayor’s Cup action tomorrow when the games which were affected yesterday will be played. In the first match, SunBurst Camptown FC will clash with Bakewell Buxton United and in the final first round game of the 16-team Invitational Tournament, national Club Champions Alpha United tackle BV Triumph United.
The first two quarter-final games will be played on Wednesday when Fruta Conquerors meet the GDF and Pele FC confront Riddim Squad.
