RENOWNED local heavy metal rock band, Et Tu Brutus and the emerging Celestial Burn of the same genre, are set to share the stage with internationally-renowned Brazilian Death Metal band, Antidemon, when they appear for the first time in Guyana next month. Formed in January 1994 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Antidemon is known for lyrical themes of Christianity and destruction of evil and demons. Their current lineup includes vocalist and bassist, Carlos Batista; drummer, Juliana Batista; and guitarist, Luiz. They are scheduled to arrive in Guyana on March 30.
Remember Et Tu Brutus? Even though we have not heard a peep out of these guys in a while, they are far from off the scene.  Drummer, Roger Gordon said the upcoming event will see the band “resurrect some of their old numbers” from their ‘Poison’ album, as well as  render two new surprise numbers.
Gordon said Brutus has evolved into a more modern gothic-influenced style of music, emulating bands such as the Finnish group, ‘Nightwish’ or the Swedish ‘HammerFall’.
The members of Et Tu Brutus are rhythm and lead guitarist, Kurt Kerret, a member of the band from ‘Day One’ who started out on bass; Gordon, who is self-taught, and has been drumming for more than twelve years; bass guitarist, Rory Rambarran, who joined the band in 2001; Nikita Clark, the band’s only female member; vocalist, Roger Deygoo, who is also a founding member; and the Brazilian-born Vanderson.
Formed late last year by ambitious young Guyanese rock fans, Celestial Burn wants to help establish the Metal Rock scene here in Guyana. The band consists of lead vocalist, 15-year-old Brian Allen; 16-year-old David Ward; keyboardist, 16-year-old Jean Mark-Jardine; bass guitarist,  21-year-old  Roodi (Steve) Balgobin;  drummer, 18-year-old Dillon Danraj; and the lone female member cum vocalist,  27-year-old Christine DeCambra.
The band, though influenced by rock bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, and Behemoth, claim to have their own unique style.
Their music, composed by Baksh and Balgobin, centres on themes such as love, personal struggle and depression.
The performance is scheduled for Saturday April 15 at the Girl Guides Pavillion on upper Brickdam and Vlissingen Road, beginning at 20:00h.
Tickets, which will be available at a location to be announced later, will cost $1500 upfront, or $2000 at the door. (Michelle Gonsalves)
