‘Guyana where and what – Everywhere you need to go, Everything you need to know…’ has recently been made available and, in its fourth year, the local publication continues to be one of the best source of references for tourists coming into the country – as well as for some of us locals, who need help navigating this beautiful country of ours.
Publisher, Mrs. Gem Madhoo-Nascimento told the Guyana Chronicle that, like each year, there are additional features, which reflect the expanded thrust to share Guyana’s exceptional natural beauty – a true blessing of nature.
She noted that the distribution has been expanded this year, with particular focus on reaching the Diaspora.
According to her, 1,200 copies of the country guide have already been shipped to the Canadian Consulate and another shipment is being made so that the publication will be available during an annual fair in Canada that celebrates Guyana’s independence.
Madhoo-Nascimento pointed out that Brazil has also been targeted for distribution.
The Publisher said, too, that copies have also been sent to the Foreign Affairs Ministry for distribution to foreign diplomats visiting the country.
“We have definitely expanded our distribution,” she said.
Madhoo-Nascimento observed that the response so far has been encouraging and disclosed that next year the vision is for ‘bigger and better things’.
“I have had requests from persons overseas to put the publication online so next year we are looking in that direction too,” she said.
The Publisher added that the regular distribution sites will continue to feature copies of the ‘Guyana What and Where’, such as the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timehri and hotels around the country.
General Executive Management Services (GEMS) Incorporated has printed 15,000 copies of the full-colour, handy four-and-a-half inches by six inches compendium for free distribution.
The booklet is replete with a map of the capital, highlighting important buildings, a country profile, exotic places and the beautiful local flora and fauna. The compilation also contains pertinent information on services, places of interest and a calendar of events taking place in any particular month.
Stakeholders in the tourism sector laud the publication as a much-welcomed initiative, which contribute to the advancement of local tourism in a significant way.
