AS PART of the East Coast Mashramani celebrations, the village of Enmore will come alive when the East Demerara Carnival organizing Committee stages the Chutney segment of the East Coast Mash Carnival. The event, billed for Saturday, March 19, is in the form of a colourful float parade and road tramp from Foulis ‘line-top’ to the Enmore Community Centre Ground, on the East Coast of Demerara.
The first of its kind for Enmore and its environs, the event will feature performances by Guyana’s Road March King, Mahendra ‘Dem a watch me’ Ramkellawan, Trinidad’s Videsh ‘Dhal-belly Indian’ Sookhoo, and ‘D Hunter’, who also hails from Trinidad and is currently on tour in North America but would hop over to Enmore to belt out some of his chutney hits.
All of the artistes are expected to join the float launching at Foulis, and would perform on the trucks until the flotilla reaches the Enmore Ground where the fun will continue.
Everyone is free to join the float parade, which would also be complemented by a stunning contingent of overseas revellers, namely the Rio Malagueta Carnival Girls from Brazil, who promise to spread their contagious Brazilian Carnival vibes at the Enmore Ground.
Considering the lineup of artistes that are scheduled to perform, compounded by the magnitude of the event itself, organizers are anticipating attendance in the thousands.
While no major sponsor has been identified, the organizers are confident that the Enmore and wider East Coast business community alone is quite capable of aiding promoters in footing a percentage of the $3M price-tag associated with the staging of the event.
