THE Ministry of Human Services and Social Security will continue to work with communities across Guyana to ensure that underprivileged children living there benefit from a loving and supportive environment. The assurance was given by Assistant Chief Probation Officer in the Ministry, Mr. Gavin Munroe, last Friday, when he addressed residents of Kuru Kururu along Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
He spoke at the commissioning of the renovated $7.1M Bright Horizon Girls Dormitory, located opposite the Children’s Home in the area.
“Our Ministry has always worked with communities to ensure that the underprivileged are cared for and given the love, support and special attention they so need,” Munroe reiterated.
He said, in that regard, development could only take place if there is collaboration and partnership between the Government agencies, communities and private entities.
“We cannot do this unless we work in collaboration for the betterment and development of the people of this country,” Munroe maintained.
He announced that the Ministry has established Children Community Care Points (CCCP) with the aim of, positively, influencing the lives of as many children in the communities as possible.
Munroe said the intervention would see to it that their needs are met and they are provided with the help and support needed.
“We also facilitate training in life skills and funding for the development of these children,” he informed.
Munroe applauded the community members for being supportive of the less fortunate among them and emphasised that such behaviour is worth emulating elsewhere.
He observed that, if communities would come together and rise to the challenges facing them, then many issues would be resolved to their benefit.
Assuring that the Ministry will maintain its involvement in the lives of the Kuru Kururu community, Munroe said:“We are very interested in what happens here and we will remain involved in the lives and livelihood of the children and I would like to thank the community leaders who have been doing this even when we are not here.”
The dormitory renovation was funded by Food For The Poor Guyana Inc. and alluding to the contribution by the charitable organization, he said the gesture is an indication of the love and support still inherent in man.
“This will go a long way in improving the lives of many of these children and I want to thank you for your efforts over the years,” he told FFP Executive Director, Mr. Leon Davis, who was also present at the function.
Munroe expressed the hope that others will emulate the FFP efforts and, in so doing, touch the lives of more persons in need.
