Watching ordinary people become part of extraordinary movements across the Middle East these past few weeks has made me think: what are some of the lessons for our global climate movement?
Those of you receiving this email live in over 188 different countries, speak different languages, grew up in different nations, and if you pray, you pray to a multitude of different gods.
And yet, you’ve come together with 350.org over the last two years and done spectacular things. Together, you’ve organized over 15,000 climate actions in nearly every country on earth. Together, you’ve taken a scientific data point — 350 parts per million of CO2 — and made it the symbol of a growing movement.
The actions across the Middle East remind us that all people desire dignity, peace, and a safer world for the next generation – and that change can happen on a scale and at a speed that was not even possible just a few years ago.
For our movement, it is a reminder that to solve the climate crisis we need more than the power of solar panels and wind turbines: we need the power of people. Today, I’m proud to introduce some of the people on the 350.org staff who will be working with you this year to build a people-powered movement to solve the climate crisis.
Go to http://350.org/globalmovement for more information on our movement.
We’ll be in touch soon with more details and look forward to hearing your ideas about how to take this movement forward. In the meantime, please send your thoughts and support to our friends around the world who are fighting today for a better future for themselves and their families.
If you’re wondering what some of 350.org’s other plans are this year, stay tuned. We’re putting the finishing touches on a few campaigns and talking to lots of partners and organizers from Cairo to California
Thank you for coming together
