WITH preparations for hosting Mashramani picking up steam, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony on Friday visited several ‘Mash’ camps to check on their progress.
His tour took him to the camp sites of GT&T; Hits and Jams; Carib; Guyana Power and Light (GPL); Digicel; the Burrowes School of Art; and Banks DIH Ltd. Asked how things were coming along, Minister Anthony told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that as Guyana’s festivities continue to attract regional and international attention, a contingent of 16 revellers from Suriname will be participating in this year’s Mashramani celebrations.
He added that the celebrations will not only depict the country’s Republican status, but a time when one reflects on the progress made over the years.
“It also allows us to trace the progress made thus far, and so this year on our anniversary, we will have a mixture of fun things that people would like to do, but other things such as symposiums and the inaugural Republic lecture,” he said.
Minister Anthony, while noting that this year’s celebration will be bigger than ever, said that the Ministry has already registered over 30 organisations, which have signed on to participate in the festive celebrations. These boast contingents from 100 to 1500 revellers. (GINA)
