Edwards, Thomas off to India to join Windies squad

ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Kirk Edwards and Devon Thomas left the Caribbean last evening to join the West Indies team in India after the International Cricket Council’s technical committee approved them as replacements for the injured duo of Adrian Barath and Carlton Baugh. Barath and wicketkeeper Baugh were this week ruled out of the Cricket World Cup after suffering hamstring injuries in the build up to the showpiece which bowled off yesterday in Bangladesh.
Edwards is a 26-year-old right-hander who scored a career-best 171 against England Lions last week while Thomas, 21, is a former West Indies Under-19 gloveman who has played two One-Day Internationals.
The duo are set to arrive in Delhi tomorrow and will link up with the West Indies side currently preparing for their opening match against South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Thursday.
West Indies are competing in Group B where they also face tournament favourites India, The Netherlands, Bangladesh, Ireland and England.
