Up to late last night, a fire of yet unknown origin was raging in Central Lethem, Region 9, gutting a bond connected to a popular business establishment known as ‘Waykas’, with millions going up in flames, although some items were saved. The establishment housed a clothing and hardware store and also sold electronics.
According to Regional Executive Officer of Region 9, Mr. Ronald Harsawack, the fire started around 18:30 hrs.
Residents and other businesspersons were pumping water and battling to save other businesses in the area, this newspaper understands.
He said the fire raged unchecked because of the lack of fire control in Lethem and also because of the ongoing drought in the Region.
