KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Marlon Samuels has identified goal-setting as one of the secrets of his new found success with the bat.
Samuels started the WICB Regional first-class championship on a high note, with 250 in the second innings of Jamaica’s opening round win against Guyana in the WICB Regional first-class championship last weekend. “I’m at a place in my life right now, where I write down that I need 200 runs in this game, and I end up getting 250,” he told Radio Jamaica.
“I just put my mind to something and then go out there and play and let it happen.”
The double hundred followed a rich vein of form in last month’s Caribbean Twenty20 Championship, where his 203 runs was the highest aggregate of the competition.
Samuels, however, admitted he has under-achieved with the bat, and it’s his intention to change all of this.
“One would say I played a few first-class games, but my first-class game was while on West Indies duty,” he said.
“I played one or two games, but I never played consistently. This is the opportunity for me to play a full first-class season for the first time, so I’m looking forward to scoring a lot of runs.”
Jamaica travel to Grenada for their second round match against Windward Islands, starting on Friday at Queen’s Park Stadium in St George’s.
