ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday refused bail for four men facing a joint, indictable abduction charge. Taquin Springer, 29, of Lot 161 South Turkeyen, Colin Masonhing, 23, of Lot 377 Turkeyen, Shelton Bourne, 26, of Lot 22 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty and Jason Rambarran, 24, of Lot 7 Bel Air, all in Greater Georgetown, were remanded to prison until February 17.
It is alleged that, on January 26, in the Albouystown ward of the city, they abducted Gregory Lillie, with intent to cause him to be secretly confined.
Police Inspector Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said on January 25, the virtual complainant was given two boxes and a car wheel to deliver to someone in Linden but, the next day, he was confronted by the four accused, who, after enquiring about the delivery, forced him into a motor car.The Prosecutor said the men threatened to kill Lillie if he did not tell them where he delivered the boxes and a report was made, giving the police the vehicle number and a mobile patrol intercepted it. Two of the accused and the victim were in the back seat and the other two in the front seat.
He objected to bail, based on the seriousness of the offence and the likelihood of witness tampering and the objection was upheld.
Defence Counsel George Thomas claimed the accused were trying to help the virtual complainant, who had a problem with someone else and they were taking him to a police station.
The case will be called, again, on February 17.
