Leadership qualities for the new president of Guyana!

TODAY we are hearing a lot of talks and rumours about who’s going to be the next President of Guyana. Since this is a national interest to our country, I’ve decided to put my views on some leadership qualities.
We need a leader who we can look up to and feel proud of. A leader who portrays the qualities of integrity, honesty, humility, responsibility, vibrancy and above all someone who has walked the path of decency! I hope this is not too much to ask for!  We cannot elect a leader who has worked for decades with an organisation but does not possess these qualities. We must have someone who the youths of today can emulate and who has a vision for this country and its people.
Today, political parties and organisations use a lot of energy speaking about loyalty. What is loyalty?  Does it mean that one should stay indoors and not intervene if a subject/topic affects the whole country or organisation?
Loyalty automatically comes from organisation members when a leader is able to work in unity with his organisation as a team, to solve problems and to promote love and truth.
A great percentage of people fall for fame, power, money and high society status while a small percentage for moral values and spirituality. How can we create a balance between the two? Again, this is a part of leadership qualities. Hence, leadership qualities begin at home and are then filtered down to communities, society and country as a whole. Therefore, if a leader projects the greater percentage then most of his supporters will follow his pattern and vice versa.
Once an organisation is based on ego or is self-centred then the whole country is affected in a negative way. Does character, humility or simplicity no longer play major role(s) in Guyana? We need to bring these values back into society. I call upon every leader of whatever capacity you hold to play greater roles in promoting these virtuous qualities.
What sense does it make if one is qualified with the highest academics but does not portray these virtuous qualities? Wake up my fellow Guyanese sisters and brothers. It’s now time for a change and we must help to transform negativity to positivity by choosing rightful persons for certain key positions in this beautiful country of ours!
Let’s move this country with dignity, pride, pure love and truth. This goes equally for the opposition party when considering a candidate. Choose someone with quality, class and respectability!
May I take this opportunity to thank President Bharrat Jagdeo for the sterling contributions he has made in Guyana. Someone whom I’ve respected since the State Planning days where we had worked together. May peace and success continue to be showered upon him.
