Roadside Baptist, pioneers in the teaching of Information and Communications Technology on the Corentyne, last week received a gift of 12 desktop computers complete with printers and computer desks from the Office of the President.
The gifts were handed over to Managing Director of Roadside, Pastor Almond Katryan, by Personal Assistant to the President, Mr. Kheedmat Boodho, in the presence of Information Technology Specialist, Bassau Dwarka, at the Presidential Secretariat.
Katryan, who expressed gratitude for the humanitarian gesture by President Jagdeo, noted that the presentation was a timely one, as the computers at the institution had been operating under considerable strain.
Since the introduction of ICT Training in 1998, through the courtesy of The Embassy of Japan, Roadside has been training about 100 persons annually, with a focus on youths. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants are awarded certificates and diplomas accredited by the Adult Education Association. Several persons, having graduated from the programme, have been able to secure jobs, and have started businesses requiring secretarial skills.
Meanwhile, late last year, the Corriverton branch of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), presented two computers to Roadside, a timely donation from which 20 single mothers were the first to benefit.
Roadside Baptist extends sincere gratitude to all who have been supporting the organization over the years.
