Kissoon’s line on national issues is predictable

CERTAINLY, it is not difficult to predict Kaieteur News premier columnist, Freddie Kissoon’s line on any national issue, given his known track record of outright hatred for the PPP/C administration that borders on fanaticism and gross irrationality.
His latest piece refers to the recent problem at Stabroek Market Square that resulted in the decision to demolish dozens of stalls, many of them illegally erected. He rants about this state action, describing same as fascist and comparing such with the recent
Tuscon shooting incident that took the lives of six persons, seriously injuring United States Congresswoman Giffords. His specific view is that the authorities there, did not demolish the supermarket and other proximal holdings, as a result of the shootings. I agree that no such action had been taken. But there is a reason, Freddie: the area is not reported to harbour, encourage or even sustain criminal elements!
Not even the affected vendors themselves in the Stabroek area can contradict the many incidents of criminality, witnessed by them on a daily basis, that have been perpetrate against shoppers and even some of their colleagues over the years. Most of these folks have been hard working and law abiding who, for decades, have sold for a daily, honest living. But, gradually they have witnessed what used to be a socially and morally clean environment invaded by hard–core elements, merchants and perpetrators of dangerous crimes. Many of their numbers, who dared speak out, were threatened into fearful silence, thereby becoming hostage to these dark forces. Any truthful vendor can substantiate this fact.
It befuddles that Kissoon can take such an anti-law and order position; for surely, had he been a victim of a criminal act within the Stabroek Square, he would have heaped criticism on the very authorities for having allowed such to occur to a citizen.
Am I to believe that Kissoon is against the attempts to regularise the vendors in a proper manner? Is he against the attempts to restore law and order around Stabroek Square? Or does he support the continuation of criminal acts, there?
With the decisive intervention now in progress, Stabroek Square will be returned to an ambience of improved order, where the vendors properly arranged will no longer have to be fearful of the thieves and dangerous types; and citizens also can conduct their affairs without having to look over their shoulders, for fear of being molested and relieved unlawfully of their possessions.

Finally, the shocking, shameful, assault such as that which occurred on innocent Guyanese, emanating from that very square on January 12, 1997 as a result of Chief Justice Desiree Bernard’s ruling on a constitutional motion, will not recur.
