PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) – Trinidad & Tobago Under-20 boys’ national team will continue its preparation programme, with a friendly international against Guyana’s Under-20 boys on January 14 in Georgetown.
The Young Soca Warriors are preparing for the final round of CONCACAF qualification for the 2011 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Guatemala. “We’ve been invited to play Guyana next week and then we also have the training camp in Miami coming up,” Team Operations Manager Cheryl Abrams told TTFF Media.
“Overall the preparations are on stream, and we’re trying to ensure the team is prepared the best possible way for the final round.”
The match is also a tune-up for the Guyanese. They are preparing for a Caribbean Football Union qualifying series from January 19 to 29, with hosts Suriname, Netherlands Antilles, and Bermuda .
The winner will complete the 12-team field for CONCACAF tournament from April 3 to 17.
The Young Warriors will also attend a live-in training camp next month, when it is likely that they will contest two warm-up matches against the Canada Under-20 boys’ team in preparation for the CONCACAF tournament.
The teams already through to the final round are North American qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States, hosts Guatemala, Central American qualifiers Honduras, Panama and El Salvador, as well as fellow Caribbean qualifiers Cuba, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, and T&T.
The top four teams will qualify for the Under-20 boys’ World Cup in Colombia from July 20 to August 20.
So far, the Asian confederation and UEFA have completed their qualifying competitions with Australia, North Korea, South Korea, Saudia Arabia, England, Austria, Portugal, Croatia, France, and Spain already booking their spots for the World Cup.
