THE Stabroek Market square has been a haven for all manner of criminal activities for several years, as such, a complete clean-up of the area is necessary and long overdue.
I have read about numerous robberies taking place in that area, often in broad daylight, carried out by drug dealers/users. These criminals from all appearances have been plying their trade alongside legitimate vendors, often doing odd-jobs for them while conducting their own nefarious activities.
This area badly needs some degree of order since the chaos that existed provided the perfect environment for criminal activity. Unfortunately, this clean-up comes at a cost; the removal of vendors. However, we must not lose sight of the greater good which is government’s move to ensure that the area is safe and free from undesirables.
