Former club president makes donation

FORMER president of the Monedderlust Football Club (MFC), Ainsworth Ross, and two other United States-based players on Tuesday afternoon made a timely donation of seven Javalani football and 28 training cones to head coach Mark Bradford at the club’s training centre, Zeelust, West Coast Berbice.
In an invited comment with Chronicle Sport, Bradford said the donation will come in handy, as he seeks to maintain the club’s reputation of being the best to compete in Berbice Football Association (BFA)-organised tournaments.

“This club was formed in 1975 and after enduring many lean seasons within the BFA, we managed to hold our own and win the BFA/Banks DIH Coca Cola-sponsored league three consecutive years, from 2007 to 2009.”
He added, “In our defence of the said title last year, we ended as runners-up to Rosignol United and also got a second place spot in the 2010 BFA/Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial tournament which was won by New Amsterdam United who defeated us 1-0 in the final.
All told, we had a successful year and certainly the cones and balls will ensure us to have a much better 2011.”
According to Bradford, who also hosts the weekly television programme Soccerama in Georgetown, MFC has numerous plans in the pipeline for this year, including an extensive development programme on the ground.
“We have many projects we are targeting this year, but most importantly, we are looking at fencing our ground to make it one of the better choices for the BFA when it comes to hosting football in Berbice, as well as hosting a grassroots programme which will get under way next month at the No. 5 Primary School ground.”
Bradford also said his aim is to win both the BFA/Coca Cola League as well as the Cheddi/Janet Jagan Memorial tournaments this year, while he is also looking to have his team compete in the 22nd edition of the Kashif and Shanghai tournament.
