On Essequibo Coast…

Mobile pumps operating to avoid major flooding
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh, has reported that several mobile pumps are in operation along Essequibo Coast to drain excess rainfall water in residential and farming areas.

He said the Regional Administration the operations are continuing at Lima, Devonshire Castle, Hampton Court, Perth and Anna Regina and at sluices during falling tides, to avoid major flooding.
Heavy overnight rain has left several low-lying places flooded but quick action by the Regional Administration drained the flood waters quickly.
However, downstream flows from higher land is affecting several residential locations, especially when it rains heavily.
But, despite the heavy, consistent showers, Region Two has not experienced any related disasters because the drainage and irrigation (D&I) system is working efficiently, Baksh said. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
