Accused in terrorist activities cases further remanded

THE cases of Collin Jones alias ‘Bunny’, Randy Mars and Jafar Simpson, charged after arson attempts at the Supreme Court, attempted murder of three policemen at Brickdam Police Station and Clayton Westford, were called yesterday before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The accused, implicated in 2009 terrorist activities, were further remanded to prison until January 24.

Attorney-at-law Mr. George Thomas, for the Defence, made another request to have Jones psychologically examined and his metal state considered before the preliminary inquiry (PI) commences and the magistrate deferred ruling on the application to the next Court date.
The charges against the trio said:

* on November 4, 2009, at Brickdam Police Station, they discharged loaded firearms at Police Constable Carl Marks, with intent to murder him;

* the same day and place, they discharged loaded firearms at Police Constable Rajendra Singh with intent to kill him;

* on the very day and place, they discharged loaded firearms at Detective Constable Damintra Indarpaul, intending to commit the capital offence;

* that day, too, in Georgetown, as well, they discharged loaded firearms at Clayton Westford, with the intention of killing him and

* also on that date, they set fire to the Supreme Court, a public building.

Jones had, previously, pleaded guilty to four charges of illegal possession of arms and ammunition and cultivating the prohibited cannabis (marijuana), for which he was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $75,000 on each conviction.
