‘Jumbie’ locked-up for Christmas
– popular comedian released yesterday after spending three days in Brickdam cell
POPULAR comedian, Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones, was released yesterday from the Brickdam Police Station, three days after he was arrested on suspicion of robbery under arms. Speaking with the Chronicle shortly after his release at 13:00 hrs yesterday, Jones said he was arrested late Friday afternoon (Christmas Eve Day) outside Nigel’s Supermarket on Robb and Light Streets, Georgetown.
Alluding to the popular view shared by most men that ‘shopping with women can be sometimes stressful’, Jones said he decided to wait outside the supermarket as his fiancйe did the shopping inside.
It was while standing outside the supermarket that Jones said he observed two Police patrol ranks (in black clothes), one of whom was looking at him suspiciously while speaking to someone on a hand-held radio set.
Jones said a few minutes later, other police ranks pulled up alongside him and arrested him. He said they took him to the Brickdam Police Station where they told him he was arrested on suspicion of robbery under arms.
Jones yesterday said he was glad to be out of the cell. “You know what is it to spend Christmas in jail, especially without knowing what you get lock up for?” Jones questioned.
“I got my own idea in my mind why I was arrested but I am not willing to make it public as yet…I need to think things through first,” Jones told the Chronicle via telephone.
“I will be seeking advice, legal or otherwise, before I take the next step,” he added.
