Troy Bacon granted $300,000 bail by C.J.
TROY Bacon, an accused who was allegedly found with 225 grams of cannabis in his possession, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison by a magistrate who denied bail.
However, Bacon was given the privilege of spending his Christmas outside of prison by Chief Justice Mr. Ian Chang, S.C.
Candacy Bruce, on behalf of the accused, had filed a petition for bail on the ground that the 37-year old Bacon, father of four children, employed at Eddie Viera’a Enterprise, was not likely to have an early trial.
After listening to legal arguments from Mr. Adrian Thompson for the Petitioner, and Miss Rhondel Weaver for the respondent, the Chief Justice allowed the accused bail in the sum of$300,000.
The court was told that the narcotics were allegedly found in a minibus en route to Georgetown.
It is said that the minibus was stopped at a road block and a search was conducted when the substance was found on the floor of the vehicle. The Court was told that the accused had no knowledge of the substance.
Thompson told the court that his client was not a flight risk and would faithfully attend court at all times and in places required by him.
Bail was granted pending the hearing and determination of the trial.
The defendant is likely to face trial within a reasonable time.
