THE Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. (GuySuCo) said it wishes to inform the public that there is “no shortage of sugar”.

The Corporation, in a brief statement yesterday afternoon, assured that it supplies sugar to an approved list of wholesalers, distributors, retailers and manufacturers and is satisfied that the quantity of sugar being sold monthly is adequate to meet the local market.

Customers are therefore advised NOT TO PAY “BLACK-MARKET” prices.

GuySuCo said the price of sugar has not been increased and remains, as at December 14, 2010:

** Wholesale price: $5,000 per 110 lb bag or $50 per 1lb

** Retail price: $6000 per 110 lb bag or $55 per 1lb

The Demerara Gold brand of sugar is being sold at $186 per 1kg (2lb)
