The man who allegedly stabbed to death a 38-year-old chain-saw operator on Tuesday last during an argument at 23 Miles, Mabura, North West District, was yesterday remanded to prison.
Kester Miguel, of St. Monica Reservation, Pomeroon River, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was not required to plead to the charge, which stated that between December 7 and 8, 2010, at 23 Miles Mabura, he murdered Clive Williams.
Police prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford, told the court that on the day in question, the defendant and the now dead man were drinking alcohol and were both highly intoxicated.
He informed the court that an argument ensued between another man and Williams which resulted in a fight and the accused intervened.
Telford said after the fight, the other man left and lay in a hammock to relax and the now deceased man became more annoyed. He said this led to another argument and a scuffle.
The prosecutor said Williams pulled out a small knife and stabbed the defendant to his upper arm; and in self defence, the defendant took away the knife and stabbed Williams to his lower abdomen.
He said Williams later died and the matter was reported which led to the arrest of the defendant.
The accused was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Christiansburg court for report and fixture on January 11.
