Electrical fire at the Palms

ADMINISTRATOR of the Palms Mr. Govind Singh, received a scare yesterday morning when an electrical cable attached to an unoccupied section of an old block of the institution began sparking, followed by an explosive sound.
The Fire Service, Police, GPL and the Director of Social Services were immediately informed but, although the Fire and other Services responded promptly, the staff had already put the small blaze out with fire extinguishers.
Singh informed the Chronicle that the staff of the Palms reacted very competently and effectively and removed the residents in the immediate vicinity without causing any undue alarm, with the result that there was at all times order and calm. According to Singh, the institution conducts a regimen of regular fire drills, which enabled the exercise yesterday morning to be carried out with precision, in a very orderly and timely manner.
When Chronicle visited the Palms yesterday, electricians were busily inspecting and repairing the damaged electrical cables, as seen in photo. Power has already been restored to the institution by GPL.
