FORTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Suresh Sawh called Ramesh was killed in an early morning accident yesterday.
Sawh, formerly of Lot 136 Fourth Street, Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was riding a bicycle on the way to his Bel Air Park, Georgetown workplace when he was hit by a CRV motor vehicle in the vicinity of University of Guyana (UG) Turkeyen Campus. The father of one, a former employee of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) and security guard, died on the spot at about 05:00 hrs.
His wife, of 27 years, Lilowtie Sawh told the Guyana Chronicle she was reliably informed that the driver of the ill-fated CRV was intoxicated.
As she wiped the tears, the woman said it was a neighbour (a taxi driver) who gave her the dreadful news at 06:00 hrs yesterday morning.
Other relatives who gathered at the victim’s home claimed that the blow from the vehicle hurled Sawh into the concrete structure, resulting in him suffering multiple severe injuries.
The man, who was at the wheel of the CRV, had been in custody at Sparendaam Police Station, also on the East Coast of Demerara for most of yesterday morning but, after complaining of pains about his body, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for treatment.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased were preparing to host a wake while Sawh’s body is at Sandy’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Lodge in the city.
