Mashabo Toshao reports loggers damaging conservancy dam

TOSHAO of Mashabo, Mr. Slyvin Raphael has reported that loggers are damaging the conservancy dam in his Amerindian community.
He said they are hauling lumber and logs across it with machines which damaged the earthen embankment.
Raphael said the water level in the large conservancy is rising quickly because of the current heavy rainfall and the dam is under pressure.

He said the Village Council considers it a series breach and has warned the offenders, who are from Essequibo Coast, to stop the practice.
Raphael said the lumber and logs are cut from the interior and transported by boat from Mashabo in the conservancy to the coast and, if the dam collapses because of erosion, that will cause widespread flooding of villages.
