Bara Cara Village Council stops school annexe construction
CONSTRUCTION of Bara Cara Primary School annexe, at Akawini, lower Pomeroon River, has been stopped by the Village Council, because of complaints that the contractor is also not paying labourers for work on the project.
Village Toshoa, Mr. David Wilson made the disclosure at the Regional Toshoas Meeting on Monday, at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, where he called on that body to intervene.
He said the building was scheduled for completion within another two weeks but the Village Council took the decision to stop the erection until residents who worked on it and others who supplied the lumber are paid.
Wilson said several villagers are owed wages for six weeks work and $333,000 are due for lumber.
Chairman of the Regional Toshoas Committee, Mr. Ulic Henery said an investigation will be launched into the matter immediately.
JPM General Contracting and Engineering Services, of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, was contracted, last June, to do the $12.5M job.
