THE bodies of two young lovers were discovered hanging from a beam in an abandoned house at Uitvlugt Pasture, West Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.
Police said the discovery, about 06:00 h, was of Avinash Persaud, 18, of Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo and Kaymattie Hussein, 17, of Cornelia Ida, West
Coast Demerara. Persaud and Hussein shared a relationship believed to have been affected by parental disagreements and were last seen at their respective homes on Sunday and
Monday last.
Post mortem examinations on the corpses will be performed to assist Police investigating the deaths.
Brother of one deceased, Rovin Persaud called Robin, 24, told the Guyana Chronicle that his sibling left home five days ago and a search for him had been ongoing
up to 03:00h yesterday.
He informed this newspaper that the 18-year-old was a conductor working on the family mini-bus driven by their father.
The brother described the dead as an innocent sibling who had started the relationship with the teenage girl a few months ago but never indicated a desire to get
married.
He said his mother did not approve of the affair but his brother spent November 29 away from home, where he had left his cellular phone.
The house in which the corpses were found belonged to Persaud’s grandparents.
Persaud said his brother’s body and that of his paramour, both clothed, were hung by separate bed sheets from the same beam but at different heights.
His brother was not wearing a shirt and he thought it strange that the couple could have hanged themselves without the aid of a chair or any other furniture.
He maintained that his brother was not suicidal and could not believe he took his own life.
Neighbours in Uitvlugt Pasture said they saw a door to the ill-fated building ajar and notified a relative, Bobby Samuel Khemraj, who resides a few houses away. It
was he who went to check and stumbled upon the bodies in the living room area.
It is suspected that the lovers ventured into the house Thursday night, because villagers did not see the building open during the day.
Father of the dead, Chablall Persaud said, although he had been asked, his son never indicated that he wanted to marry.
The grieving man said his son met the waitress at a Parika Chinese restaurant but was adamant he would not end his own life.
At Block X, Cornelia Ida, where Hussein lived, in a rented cottage with her mother and two younger siblings, including a newborn baby, neighbours said the family
moved there a few months ago and were new to the community.
They said the teenager supported her mother and siblings and Persaud was at the home on Tuesday, when he and Hussein left together in the afternoon.
