Contract for Mahdia rebuilding awarded to villager

A CONTRACT has been awarded for the rebuilding of the Vendors’ Arcade, which was destroyed by fire, earlier this year, at Mahdia, in Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni). The award was made to Mr. Troy Dainty, also from Mahdia, the Ministry of Housing and Water confirmed on Tuesday.

Regional Chairman Senor Bell said officials from that Ministry visited the mining community on Monday, following selection of the contractor.
He said the work to be done will include the layout of the area along modern lines and the installation of facilities such as walkways and sanitary blocks.
Meantime, construction in the new housing scheme in the village is also gaining momentum.
Mr. Bell said the land has been cleared and 135 house lots demarcated for distribution which will commence shortly.
Many of those to get lots were made homeless by the blaze which reduced 27 business places to rubble in the commercial area of Mahdia.
The conflagration, suspected to be electrical in origin, also left millions of dollars in losses on the evening of July 1 last. (Clifford Stanley)
