MANAGEMENT of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday advised that the captions and statements published in last Saturday’s edition of the daily newspapers with regards to one of the hospital’s staff being charged with wounding another staffer, “do not accurately” represent the facts. Consequently, management said it would like to highlight the fact that the individuals who were involved in the altercation, and the alleged perpetrator who was subsequently remanded, are “technically not GPHC staff”.
It was reported that Dawn Roberts was charged with wounding another GPHC cleaner, Deon Norton, when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday last.
Roberts, of North Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown had pleaded guilty to the charge but after being informed by the magistrate that the offence carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment, her plea was changed following her explanation. She was subsequently remanded to prison until December 6.
But the management of GPHC yesterday said both Roberts and Norton are not staff at the hospital.
“Those individuals are the staff of a janitorial service that recently won the contract to provide cleaning services to the hospital, and as such, the hospital wishes to disassociate itself from those individuals…,” GPHC stated.
