Motorcyclist killed in East Bank accident

– victim was due to leave Guyana this morning for his homeland in northern Europe
ESTONIAN seaman, Oleg Vidner, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, should  have travelled to his homeland in northern Europe early this morning.
Vidner, a Ship’s Chief Engineer was scheduled to take up a lucrative appointment on  a Russian vessel later this week and had completed all his travel arrangements.
He never made it.
Police were last night investigating the circumstances in which the 51-year-old man died on the Public Road at Farm, East Bank Demerara, while riding his 600 cc CBR Motorcycle.
Details on the accident up to late last night were sketchy but it appeared to be a single vehicle accident.
Reports stated that Vidner was riding his motorcycle on the western side of the public road in a northerly direction around 18:00 hrs when he apparently lost control and fell.
He received severe head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the nearby Diamond Diagnostic Hospital.
Monica Vidner, wife of the dead man, said the last time she saw him alive was around 17:45 hrs when he left home  at Lot 1090, Diamond Housing Scheme on his motorcycle to collect some gold jewellery as part of his preparations for  leaving Guyana via Timehri Airport for Estonia early this morning.
A member of the mosque at Farm, near the accident scene, said he and others were at prayer at around 18:00 hrs when they heard a loud, crashing sound.
They did not take it for anything but when they emerged from prayer ten minutes later they saw the man, later identified as Vidner, lying in the middle of the roadway apparently dead and the motorcycle on the parapet about 36 feet away.
According to him, there was no other vehicle on the scene.
Monica, his Guyanese wife of four years, described Vidner as a loving husband who had been very successful as a seaman and had bought the motorcycle  just a few months ago.
Oleg Vidner is reportedly survived by a 23-year-old daughter living in Estonia.
