Region Two releases Mashramani 2011 programme

THE regional administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has released its programme of activities for Mashramani 2011.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh, who heads the Planning Committee, announced the schedule in the Regional Boardroom, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, on Wednesday.

He said he wants the celebrations in the region to be bigger and more colourful next year and exhorted all Essequibians and businesses within to become involved.
Baksh noted that the occasion attracts thousands and everyone looks forward to it annually, when many overseas Guyanese also come back home.
He said, on Mash Day, a grand cultural show will be staged at Anna Regina Community Centre ground, after the flag-raising ceremony takes place on the tarmac of Anna Regina Fire Station at 07:00 h.
Other activities include the Chutney Competition finals on February 20 at the Community Centre ground; Disabled People’s Competition in Queenstown village; Art, Essay, Debate, Informal Speech and Best Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) contest, which will be judged according to cleanliness.
Children’s Costume, Calypso and Dramatic Poetry competitions and a Road March, to be organised by the Department of Education, Art Gallery, Best Decorated and Illuminated buildings competitions and a Float Parade with tramping are also on the agenda.
A Regional Awards ceremony is also billed.
