Judge rebukes defence counsel in WBD murder trial

…for using dirty language to young female prosecutors
DURING the hearing of the West Bank Demerara murder trial voir dire (a trial within a trial)  yesterday, Justice Winston Patterson had cause to rebuke defence Counsel Mr. Vic Puran who had apologized to the Court for allegedly using dirty language when referring to the work of young female prosecutors.
It all happened during the cross-examination of a prosecution witness when Mr. Puran, who was about to leave the courtroom, changed his mind and sat not far from the prosecutors’ bench, where he is alleged to have uttered the words loud enough for two of the prosecutors to hear.

The resentful remarks were passed on to the leading Prosecutor, Miss Latchmie Rahamat, who, along with the other prosecutors, sought an audience with the judge and put forward their complaints.
At this stage, Mr. Puran, apologised to the prosecutors, pointing out that he was in the process of going outside and did the wrong thing by changing his mind, when he decided to sit down in Court.
Judge Patterson was offended by the remarks which the prosecutors said were hurled at them.
On trial for murder is accused Lakenauth Dial, called Mohan, who is indicted with having between the 2nd and 3rd days of February, 2008, in the county of Demerara, murdered Fazran  Khan at Clay Brick Road , No  2 Village, West Bank Demerara.
The Prosecution as conducted by Miss Latchmie Rahamat and Ms. Judith Gildharie-Mursalin is alleging that the accused stabbed Khan to death following a wedding  house function.
The voir dire continues today.
