THE WPA adds its voice to the rising chorus of grief over the death of our colleague and friend, Winston Murray. As the tributes continue to pour in from far and wide one common chord emerges: Winston’s unfailing courtesy to friend and foe alike, the quiet dignity with which he embraced our shared humanity without sacrificing his own deeply held convictions. A model parliamentarian, his exemplary conduct on the floor of the House was a dignified rebuke to the rowdiness and cheap point scoring of others. Without giving up his loyalty to his party, he had a vision of the kind of governance our country needed that went beyond party to embrace citizens of other parties and none, and he worked tirelessly to make that vision a reality. Winston’s long years of selfless service to the nation, his unswerving dedication to the betterment of the lives of the people of Guyana, will always stand as the best of examples and a source of inspiration to all who aspire to public office.
We mourn the passing of a true friend who fought the good fight. We extend our most profound sympathy to his sorrowing family, his comrades and friends. Guyana is now poorer because of the passing of her devoted son.
