BARRY Sukhram, who has a long and distinguished record of political activism holding several senior positions on the Executive Committee of the People’s Progressive Party of Guyana (UK Branch), was presented with a Hansib Award – of Hansib Publications Ltd. – for Achievement and Service to the Community.

The Award was received at Hansib’s 40th Anniversary Gala Reception on the 20th November 2010 at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane in London.

In attendance were over 500 guests including Lords, Ladies, MP’s and Royal representatives from across the West Indian and African community, according to a statement from the PPP’s UK Group.

The focal point of Sukhram’s long membership on the PPP (UK branch) Executive was centred, together with many others, “on the long, lonely and hard struggle spanning over twenty-eight years for the restoration of democracy in Guyana,” the statement said.

Barry is now semi-retired and continues his activism with involvement through leadership in the Caribbean Labour Solidarity and the Jeff Crawford Foundation in England.
