FOR the third successive year, Camex Restaurant Inc. through their Church’s chain of restaurants saw it fit to partner with the dynamic Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, who will, for the 21st successive year, kick off their annual football extravaganza on December 12 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
At a simple ceremony held at their Camp & Middle Streets outlet – one of six – along with Mario’s Pizza and two Dairy King Parlours, Director of Training Dawn Braithwaite presented Greg ‘Kashif’ Muhammad with a cheque for an undisclosed sum.
“Let me say congrats to Kashif and Shanghai on this their 21st year for their tournament. We have always been supportive of them and we will continue to be supportive, as we see the need to assist with the improvement of football in Guyana,” said Braithwaite.
In his thank-you speech, Muhammad lauded the franchise for coming on board with his organisation, stating that preparations were going great so far.
“Let me thank Church’s for once again being on board with us, for which we are thankful, as, apart from the sponsorship, they service patrons at the game with their meals.
“Our preparation for this year’s tournament has been going great. We met both Ministers of Home Affairs and Sport, Clement Rohee and Dr Frank Anthony, to discuss various matters that we have seen coming out of last year’s tournament, including security, and sometime next week we will be meeting with President Bharrat Jagdeo,” said Muhammad.
Muhammad said his organisation is expecting exciting and enthralling football from the 18 teams who will be battling for the $2M first prize that will be up for grabs. They are also engaging the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in talks to have the country’s top players on show for the exhibition matchup between the Golden Jaguars and Aletico Roraima out of Boa Vista, Brazil.
It was further stated that the K&S Organisation will be making a tangible donation of cash and kind to two of Guyana’s football stalwarts, Collie’ Hitman’ Hercules and Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard.
“Their contribution to Guyana’s football through the K&S Organisation is immeasurable. They have both been competing in our tournament from day one, while they were also the first batch of players to leave these shores and compete in the professional league in Trinidad and Tobago.”
