Ignoring road safety rules leads to loss of important human resources

– Minister Rohee tells scouts
AS part of a calendar of activities to commemorate Road Safety Month, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) Saturday spoke with a number of scouts in a highly interactive discussion in an effort to spread awareness about the dangers of improper use of the roads.
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, who has been very instrumental
in supporting the NRSC in executing this year’s activities, lamented that in many cases, people are aware of the rules when using the road yet, for some reason or the other, they choose to ignore them; and in so doing, they are risking their lives as well as those of other innocent road users.
“We lose very important human resources this way; and in a country like Guyana, with such a small population, we just can’t afford this,” Minister Rohee said.
The event also saw NRSC executive members and ranks of the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) conducting presentations on road safety rules and road traffic signs and markings.
Road Safety Month was launched on November 1, under the theme, “Driving fast takes lives, careful driving saves lives.” (GINA)
