THE historical and religious observance of ‘Diwali Celebrations’, combined with prayers and communal fraternity was dashed aside and tarnished with the consistent explosion of squibs and heavy types of explosive gadgets never experienced on the Essequibo. The episode of this unacceptable, war like zone, began when all the twinkling Dyas were lit at 6 pm on that Friday. The hundreds of homes, pathways, roadways, private institutions exhibited a magnificent display of splendour and power of lights to mark this occasion.
However, as the explosive elements took control, like other villages, the residents of Hampton Court had to take cover as marauding youths went on this fiasco which lasted for three hours. Senior citizens were affected;animals went berserk;glass windows shattered. That ordeal was never experienced.The responsibility is not for our limited Police Force but for every mandir,church,mosque,schools and homes to put a halt to this new anti-religious culture.
