Pedro, Wagner register hat-tricks for West Front Road
WENDELL Pedro and Randolph Wagner registered hat-tricks as West Front Road chalked up the largest margin of victory on the final night of preliminary action in the second Banks DIH Guinness Greatest in de Streets competition at the National Cultural Centre tarmac Tuesday night.
Going up against Yarrowkabra, Pedro struck in the 3rd, 17th and 30th minutes, while Wagner got his in the 6th, 7th and 28th minutes and along with Nal Nagaloo’s 14th minute strike, enabled West Front Road to come away with a 7-2 victory over their opponents, for whom Ryan Shultz and Dwayne Campbell scored in the 21st and 25th minutes of play respectively.
In the second game of the evening’s fixtures which saw the largest turnout to date, Broad Street did a free street-ball lesson to Festival City who struggled to get their act together, on their way to a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Devon Adams (6th) and Rocky Gravesande (7th).
Another lesson given free of cost was done by Stevedore Scheme who drilled and defeated Punt Trench 3-0 in a match-up that set tongues wagging long before the whistle sounded to commence play.
Ball control as well as accurate passes emanated from the Stevedore Scheme team, led by Fruta Conquerors’ Elroy Parks who marshalled the defence as well as orchestrated the attacks as if he was on the turf representing his club team.
It was no surprise when Ryan Taylor got the first of his brace in the sixth minute, courtesy of a Parks’ delivery that went through two of Punt Trench players including Mark Pierre who is more known for his boxing skills with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Two minutes later and the score was two-nil in favour of the eventual winners, when Parks wormed his way through the defence and beat Pierre with a long range shot, before Taylor sealed the deal with his second goal in the 17th minute of the match.
Thanks to goals from Dermon Foo (14th) and Delon Williams (17th), both Laing Avenue and Alexander Village recorded 1-0 victories over Kitty and Leopold Street respectively, while East Front Road through goals from Shaka Jones (16th) and Seon McKenzie (17th) defeated Bent Street 2-0.
Despite being left out of the Golden Jaguars team who engaged Guatemala in a friendly fixture yesterday, national striker Devon Millington showed he was not fazed by his non-selection when he got a brace for East La Penitence in the 17th and 19th minutes, as his team defeated D’Urban Street 3-1.
Omesur Eusi got the other goal for East La Penitence in the 20th minute, after Rawle Allen had opened the scoring for D’Urban Street in the 10th minute of the matchup.
The final match of the evening which saw many spectators brave the inclement weather, was contested between Queen Street of Tiger Bay and Tucville Big Yard, with the former coming out on top 2-1 thanks to Rensford Goodridge’s double which were scored in the 8th and 10th minutes while Travis Grant scored Tucville Big Yard’s lone goal in the 18th minute.
The action will continue tomorrow night at the same venue with the commencement of the knockout stage.
