Another Magistrate added to justice sector

THE Justice sector has welcomed yet another boost to its human resource capacity when, on Monday last, Attorney-at-Law Fabayo Azore took the oath of office as Temporary Magistrate in the presence of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Chief Justice Ian Chang, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Bibi Shalimar Ali-Hack and Azore’s family members. According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), Ms. Azore took her Oath at the Prime Minister’s office, Wight’s Lane, Kingston.
GINA said the Prime Minister extended Government’s appreciation to Azore for accepting the appointment as Temporary Magistrate, which is actually a probationary period, after which she will be appointed a Magistrate.

He urged her to commit herself to her task without fear or favour, a position which he added can sometimes be very challenging.
Justice Chang, in his congratulatory remarks, encouraged Azore to stay focus on the evidence presented to her, the laws of procedures and the substantive laws. He added that the discretion of a magistrate resides essentially in penalty.
Azore, who graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 2007, has served at the DPP’s Chambers as a prosecutor, during which she was attached to courts in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice, as well as the Full Court.
