GRA to step up action against firecracker importers

…appealing for public to make reports to agency
IN anticipation of the Christmas season, the Guyana Revenue Authority is appealing to the general public to report the importation and sale of firecrackers after which action would be taken against those found guilty.
This is according to Commissioner General of the GRA Mr. Khurshid Sattaur, yesterday.
“You can email us, drop us a line or visit us. We want public-spirited citizens to give us information, tell us who the importers are and call our hotline,” Sattaur said.
He said too that the GRA has an obligation to stamp out the articles and will soon be having an exercise to sensitise the public to the items being illegal, and that they should not be sold, bought or used.
Though banned, the illegal firecrackers still find themselves on the market locally, especially during the Diwali holiday and during the Christmas season.
