SEVERAL hundred children from various parts of the country were hosted on Sunday by the Mahila Mandalee, the Womens’ arm of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, at the Sanskritik Kendra in Prashad Nagar. At this annual event, the children dressed beautifully in traditional Indian wear, were treated to sumptuous food and sweets and each child received a gift from Mandilee members.
The programme featured an array of talent, with the children demonstrating their specialties in music, song and dance. Those who attended the event were especially pleased to see the standard of performance, as the children engaged in friendly music competition with one another.
Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud, President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha declared that he was overwhelmed and particularly impressed with their chanting of the ramayan and religious verses from the Bhagavad Geeta. He urged the children to learn hindi and insisted that their teachers continue to educate them in all aspects of Hindi culture.
In his address to the children, Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh reflected on his days at the Bacchon Ka Milan and stated how impressed he was with the display of talent exhibited by the children. He congratulated the Sabha and Mandilee members for continuing to promote the high standards of education for children in all aspects of their culture.
