Griffith hits aggressive ton as DCC resist arrest
… GCC, ECC take first innings

DEMERARA opener Trevon Griffith struck an aggressive ton as Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) resisted arrest in their Carib Beer Heroes Cup first division encounter against Police Sports Club (PSC) yesterday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, PSC must have regretted doing so, as they were bowled out for 143 from 30 overs, with Jason Heyliger top-scoring with 55 (6×4, 2×6) and Rawle Browne 33 (2×6).
Totaram Bishun continues to impress with his left-handed back-of-the-arm bowling to take 5-42 while national all-rounder Christopher Barnwell took 2-12 for DCC who reached 306-1 at the close, thanks to Griffith’s unbeaten 142  that was decorated with nine sixes and four fours.
Andrew Lyght Jr had earlier made a belligerent 76 (9×4, 5×6) while adding 100-odd for the first wicket with Griffith before he was lbw to Heyliger (1-54), after which Leron Primo joined Griffith to add in excess of 100 for their unbroken second-wicket partnership, Primo   contributing 63 (7×4).
At the world renowned Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, the home team rebounded after being dismissed for a paltry 117 against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), in which national middle order batsman Steven Jacobs took 7-35, to bowl out their guests for a meagre 90.
Vishal Singh 24 (2×4) and Ricardo Jadunauth 22 (2×4) led the batting for GCC while Jacobs received support from Steve Sankar who took 2-13 for MSC, who struggled against the bowling of Jadunauth (4-19) and Leon Johnson (3-26) in their turn at the wicket, with Jacobs’ 46 (5×4, 1×6) being the top score.
Batting a second time with a first-innings lead of 28, GCC reached 37 without loss at the end of the first day, with Jadunauth on 23.
At Camp Road, Everest Cricket Club (ECC) emulated DCC and GCC by taking first innings points in their fixture against Transport Sports Club (TSC) who took first strike and were bowled out for 102, of which S. Sam top-scored with 21 (2×4).
Leon Scott took 5-61 and Ahbilash Dookie 2-23 for ECC who reached 168-5 at the close, thanks to the batting of Chanderpaul Hemraj who is unbeaten on 74 (5×4) and Troy Gonsalves’ 58 (5×4, 1×6) scored against the bowling of Kevin Ross who has so far taken 3-36 for TSC.
All the matches commence at 09:30 h on the final day today, weather permitting.
