Winston Murray in ICU at Georgetown Public Hospital

….his condition critical but stable
The main Opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) member, Mr. Winston Murray, up to press time, was still unconscious in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where his condition is listed as critical.

A release from the GPH indicated that the PNCR presidential candidate was seen by the Consultant Physicians in Internal Medicine and Neurosurgery and the results of a CT scan revealed severe haemorrhage in the brain.
He is currently on respiratory life support and reportedly suffers from hypertension and diabetes.
The 70-year-old Member of Parliament was rushed to the Balwant Singh Hospital Thursday evening after he collapsed at Houston outside a lotto ticketing booth, before reaching his home at Continental Park, East Bank Demerara. He was subsequently taken to the GPH.
Murray had only hours before left the National Assembly where he made a presentation during a debate over the Amerindian Act 2006 (Commencement) Bill 2010.
Neuro-surgery is said to be Murray’s option when his condition stabilizes.
Murray studied in the Caribbean as a lawyer, trained in London as an economist and up to the time of his illness, the consensus among his supporters was that he has a good shot at being leader of Guyana’s main opposition party.

Since his hospitalization several of his political colleagues have visited him at the hospital.
A press release from the PNCR yesterday said Murray remains in a state of unconsciousness while the medical personnel have been trying to stabilise his condition to facilitate necessary surgical intervention. Doctors have described his present condition as critical but stable.

The PNCR, medical personnel and the Government are making every effort to ensure that he receives the best possible medical care at this time, the statement said.

“The PNCR and its members pray that Mr. Murray will have a speedy recovery.
“The Party will keep its members and the public regularly updated on his condition,” the statement concluded.
