IT boggles my mind to wonder why people choose to create noise nuisance pollution in public places where other people pass by or dwell. The kind of noise pollution I am talking about is the type people make verbally or the usage of boom boxes. The deafening boom boxes have come to really bother people who suffer from migraines, earaches, are studying for exams or the old people out there who just want some peace and not to be disturbed with loud annoying music. Music can be a very beautiful art if you know how to control it. I love music. That is the way I get through my day by listening to my MP3 or music downloaded on my phone in a quiet manner. You can play melodious music but don’t play it loudly, it can become irritating. Like the other night I was coming home from UG in a bus with some friends and a guy was playing music from his phone, the music was nice: soul, R&B, culture, etc. nothing vulgar, but the volume was a bit agitating towards us since we just came out from finishing a tough mid-semester paper. People have to learn to take others into consideration. You may feel like playing music while in the company of others who may feel like sleeping, have a headache or are suffering from some illness and do not want to be bothered. Just like some folks who believe that they own the place when they come to No. 63 Beach. They bring out there Sky Scraping Boom Boxes to deafen the public with not “nice” but mostly “vulgar” tunes blasting out from their set. I know the beach is a public place but you shouldn’t feel that you can do what you like to there, and that it’s a “Free Country” and no one cannot dictate what you should do or not.
Freedom of expression has its limitations too and some individuals have to learn to take on those necessary precautions in order to better persons and handle situations in a diplomatic manner. I have come across many times buses, tapirs and public party goers at No. 63 Beach playing very indecent music shouting out vulgar lyrics that bother me since I am a Christian sister.
I want to know why these lyrics are being heard and bypassed as if it is not an offence these youngsters are committing to. I would like to know if these “MEN” that play these filthy tunes about women’s bodies and what they do with “MEN” in bed, if they would like their mother or sisters to hear such inhuman comments in the presence of themselves. Men have to learn to respect the presence of other women in buses, tapirs and public places and don’t reflect to us as being “whores” and that they can do anything they feel like in our presence.
Another issue of major importance that has sprung to my mind and should be banned sooner or later is noise nuisance in public places such as the roadside. Do you think it is right to deafen the neighbourhood the entire day and night when the customary bottom-house wedding that is occurring with loud boom boxes? Come on citizens! You can do better than that and you know better than that! You’re just acting like there is no big problem and you don’t know what to do next. That’s the main reason why business people such as my parents and others have introduced overseas lifestyles here to combat noise pollution by introducing the rental of banquet halls whenever you have a birthday party, wedding reception, farewell, reunion, meeting, forum, cocktail party, etc. these places were built through permission, authority and licenses in order to protect the public from noise nuisance, being large banquets they can cater for all your generations and friends, ideal cuisine is being catered, fully stocked bars so there is no alcoholism in public and music can be played moderately in a distant place from others where the racket would not disturb any people living around. Being a banquet hall isolated from others located in a remote area makes noise nuisance less since all of the bash will take place inside the building and not outside and you can be there from dusk till dawn no one will report of an irritating noise nuisance incident. Why are people acting like they never heard of this before? This is the custom made way people overseas do weddings. They cannot put up a boom box in front their home and start playing, the police will come into the matter right away, and you can get carried away to the station, get locked up and charged for being a nuisance towards the community.
Weddings overseas happen in the vast Hindu temples, in a church or in a beautiful park followed by the reception later on that occurs at the banquet hall that was rented to accommodate the entire family and friends and have a grand time dancing to the music that surrounds you. I notice the majority of people around are cheap and acting like they know nothing about what I am saying here. If you choose your bottom house to still do the wedding rituals no problem but the reception should occur at a banquet hall. Why do you think overseas people came back to invest in these businesses? It’s for you locals to come support and enjoy the benefits of them. Hopefully noise nuisance can be eliminated to prevent an annoying atmosphere and do consider having your pre-Christmas bash and New Year’s Eve ones at a banquet hall.
